Wellness in the workplace
In recent years, the world has seen an uplift in social and technological changes, as well as unprecedented global events - posing a few challenges for those of us trying to maintain our mental health ๐
Mental Health UK recently carried out some research via YouGov on the factors that contributed to โBurnoutโ in the UK. Below are just a few of their key findings -
91% - of adults surveyed experienced high or extreme stress in the past year
20% - needed to take time off work in the past year due to poor mental
64% - suggested poor sleep was a contributor to burnout
53% - said that money worries resulted in increased levels of stress
53% - thought that poor physical health contributed to feelings of burnout
43% - reported feeling isolated in the workplace
When asked about the factors which have helped to alleviate stress and prevent burnout, the responses were -
71% - suggested a supportive network of family or friends outside of work
56% - said having a healthy โwork-lifeโ balance helped
56% - noted that exercising regularly had benefited their mental wellbeing
29% - said that having professional support for mental health had helped
24% - suggested that offering staff training on mental health had a positive impact
Some really useful action points for us to think about, whether in the context of an employer looking to provide the right environment for workers to thrive, or for us as individuals looking at how we interact with those around us (not forgetting ourselves of course), in order to prevent and/or limit feelings of stress or burnout.โค๏ธโ๐ฅ
